Healing from Autism, ADHD, and other Autism
Spectrum Disorders

Location: Carolina Center for Integrative Medicine, 4505 Fair Meadow Lane, Suite 111, Raleigh

Many children also benefit greatly from the correction of gastrointestinal problems, heavy metal overload, brain inflammation, and nutrient deficiencies that are common in these children. Our integrative approach to ASDs utilizes the Defeat Autism Now! (DAN!) protocol, which is aimed at reversing the underlying problems mentioned above and addressing the unique biology of each child.

ADHD, Learning Disabilities, and Autism
Disorders: Helping Your Child, February 24, 2010
Topic:
ADHD, Learning Disabilities, and Autism
Spectrum Disorders: Helping Your Child From
the Inside Out with Targeted Nutrition and
Integrative Medicine
Date: Wednesday, February 24 – 6:00PM – 8:00PM
Location: Fuquay Varina Community Center, 820 S. Main Street, Fuquay Varina
Description: ADHD and other learning disabilities have multiple causes. In addition to genetic factors, we now
know that environmental toxins, intestinal problems, and nutritional deficiencies may play major roles. In addition, certain genes can greatly limit a child’s ability to detoxify chemicals, making them prone to accumulating high levels of brain toxins. The most effective approach addresses the unique biology of each child and seeks to reverse the underlying problems that often fuel the behavioral problems and learning disabilities. Drawing from his pediatrics training, the most up-to-date scientific research, and his clinical training at the Autism Research Institute, John Pittman, MD of the Carolina Center for Integrative Medicine, will explain the healing effects of diet, supplements, oxygen therapy, and other natural therapies and how these approaches can be practically applied to optimally support your child's mind and mood from the inside out.
Advanced registration is required in case of cancellation. RSVP online at www.carolinacenter.com or call The Carolina Center at (919) 571-4391. All presentations are free and open to the public.

Hyperbaric Therapy: Tapping the Healing Power of
Oxygen, March 23, 2010
Topic:
Hyperbaric Therapy: Tapping the Healing Power
of Oxygen
Date: Tuesday, March 23 – 7:00PM – 8:00PM
Location: Carolina Center for Integrative Medicine, 4505 Fair Meadow Lane, Suite 111, Raleigh
Description: A growing body of research indicates that the therapeutic use of hyperbaric (pressurized) oxygen
can confer many healing benefits. Hyperbaric therapy results in more oxygen getting transported to all the cells in the body, which of course leads to more substantial cell repair and accelerated wound healing. Join us as we examine how Hyperbaric Therapy (HBT) is being used to bolster the treatment of chronic infections, toxic mold exposures, radionecrosis, stroke, and Autism. However, HBT must be used wisely, in tandem with other therapies. For example, recent research indicates that HBT may enhance the effectiveness of chemotherapy and radiation treatments, and that its effectiveness in autism is optimized when other therapies have been done first.

Treating Lyme and Lyme-Associated Disorders in
the New Millennium, May 11, 2010
Topic: Treating Lyme and Lyme-Associated
Disorders in the New Millennium
Date: Tuesday, May 11 – 7:00PM – 8:00PM
Location: Carolina Center for Integrative Medicine, 4505 Fair Meadow Lane, Suite 111, Raleigh
Description: Lyme Disease and other tick-borne illnesses can become chronic systemic and debilitating
infections, often persisting despite antibiotic therapy. The seriousness of these conditions, the challenges posed by their diagnoses, and their resistance to treatment all necessitate an individualized, integrative treatment approach that supports the immune, endocrine, neurological, digestive, and musculoskeletal systems. The response to treatment varies greatly from one patient to the next with most patients needing a comprehensive approach combining antibiotics, specific micronutrients, essential fatty acids, probiotics, mitochondrial enhancers, and hormonal support as well as targeted detoxification therapies. Solutions for Lyme-related pain, fatigue, brain fog, depression, anxiety and insomnia will be discussed. Our clinical experience has shown that that proper integration of these strategies can help us overcome this difficult disorder.

Healing Your Digestive System with Natural
Therapies, June 8, 2010

Location: Carolina Center for Integrative Medicine, 4505 Fair Meadow Lane, Suite 111, Raleigh
Description: Hippocrates, the father of Western medicine, once said, “All diseases begin in the gut.” Today we know that many common health problems are indeed linked with imbalances in the intestinal flora and to an overgrowth of undesirable organisms. Chronic digestive disturbances include everything from bloating and indigestion to constipation and gall bladder dysfunction. By identifying the causes of these disorders, you can then develop a treatment regimen that addresses all the key components of the problem, and that ultimately restores the gut to a harmonious state. We will explore the use of gut-friendly nutrition, probiotics, herbals, and colon hydrotherapy, and how combinations of these strategies can yield the best results.
